DIAGNOSIS
In order to prescribe an effective treatment plan, a variety of non-invasive diagnostic procedures will be customized to your needs. These may include any or all of the following: a discussion of your symptoms, thorough examination, x-rays, impressions of the teeth, photos, and completion of a joint guidance record (a measurement of the relationship of the teeth to the jaw).

TREATMENT
Once a diagnosis has been made, a conservative and appropriate individual treatment plan will be devised for you. Treatment may include a combination of orthotic appliances, muscle/jaw stimulation, orthodontics, or occlusal restoration.

An orthotic is a removable appliance worn over the teeth which creates a repositioned bite position. The orthotic appliance is a temporary device worn for a specific period of time. It is used to relieve pain and to confirm that improved function and alleviation of symptoms will result from the adjusted bite position. During this conservative phase, no permanent adjustment to your bite or teeth takes place.

| If use of the orthotic appliance resolves your symptoms, the next step in treatment is the permanent alteration of the teeth to achieve the precise bite adjustment. This may involve restoration or orthodontics. Correction of the painful TMJ disorder may have a silver lining — a great new smile! TMJ Therapy, Inc. uses Damon System™ brackets for orthodontics.
