Common Symptoms You Should Know About TMJ Disorder

Posted .

TMJ disorder, or more commonly known as TMD, affects nearly 10 million Americans. If you experienced arthritis, a dislocated disc in your jaw, misaligned jaw, or injury to your face, you may be experiencing some symptoms of TMD.

Our team is going to give you some of the common symptoms of TMJ disorder and show you how you can help treat them quickly and effectively.

The most common symptom of TMD is pain in the chewing muscles and/or jaw joint. Other symptoms that should be paid attention to include: pain in the face, jaw or neck, a difference in the way the upper and lower teeth align or fit together, any stiffness in your jaw muscles, limited movement or locking of your jaw, and any painful clicking or popping in your jaw when moving your mouth.

Toothaches, headaches, dizziness, earaches, shoulder pain or ringing in the ears are also symptoms of TMD that should be brought up and discussed with your dentist.

If you are experiencing these symptoms, it is important to schedule an appointment with your dentist. Your dentist can properly diagnose the problem and help you find a treatment. If you are looking for temporary relief, consider taking over-the-counter pain medication or applying an ice pack to the side of your face for 10 minutes.
