TMJ Dentistry: How Can it Help?

Posted .

What do you know about TMJ dentistry? Do you know what you can do if you have problems with your TMJ? Similarly, do you know why it’s important to address issues with your TMJ?

The TMJ, also referred to as the temporomandibular joint, is the joint that connects your jaw and your skull. Unfortunately, problems with your TMJ can lead to a variety of problems, such as headaches, pain in your jaw, and recurring stiff muscles. Luckily, you can often recognize issues with your TMJ by a clicking or popping in your ear. However, if you have any of these issues, please don’t assume you have a TMJ problem—but please consider visiting our dentist soon.

Fortunately, if you have a problem with your TMJ, there are a few options you can consider. For instance, our dentist may give you conservative self-treatments to start, such as jaw exercises or a slight change to your diet. Similarly, if you grind your teeth at night, you may be given advice or a dental appliance to resolve the problem since teeth grinding can lead to TMJ issues.
Depending on your unique needs, more invasive options may need to be considered.

If you experience any of the symptoms related to TMJ problems, please don’t hesitate to make an appointment with our dentist, Dr. Carl McMillan.
